The official currency of St Maarten is the Netherlands Antillean Guilders or NAF. But the US dollars $ are accepted everywhere. The current Official change is 1.80 guilder for 1 dollar.

For the french side of St Martin the official currency is the Euro. But again the US dollars $ are accepted everywhere. Some business practiced a change depending of the market (currently the change vary in between 1.05 – 1.10 euro for 1 dollar). And some business accept the parity 1 dollar – 1 euro. Just ask before to know what they are practicing.

Why St Maarten is called St Martin ?

St Martin St Maarten is a small island divided in 2 nations : France and the Netherlands Kingdom.
So Officially the island is called Sint Maaarten for the Dutch side but is called most of the time St Maarten.
Saint Martin is the official name for the French side but is called St Martin.
So that’s 4 names for a small Caribbean island !!
And many locals called St Maarten St Martin “SXM” regardless of the side they live. The name SXM coming from the identifier of the International St Maarten Airport given by the (IATA).
