St Maarten Scuba Diving

St Maarten Scuba Diving

Experience the spectacular underwater world of St Maarten, guided by professional scuba dive instructors with Dive Sint Maarten. The waters around St Maarten/St Martin are blessed with beautiful coral reefs which support an incredible and diverse range of marine life, from whales and sharks to sea turtles and literally hundreds of species of fish. There are many magnificent dive sites around the island, including a number of fascinating wrecks and the legendary Man of War Shoal National Marine Park.

Dive Sint Maarten is a locally owned dive business. The owners Willem and Theo are always around and hands-on: they personally conduct the guiding, teaching and driving the boat. The dive school offers a premium, VIP service to all guests. Their friendly team will set up your gear, assist you to put on and take off your equipment and help you get into and out of the water.

They use only the best quality equipment and have a comfortable, spacious boat. Their custom-built dive boat, Double Dutch, is a 32ft Island Hopper powered by a Cummins 370 HP 6 cylinder diesel engine. It fits six to eight divers comfortably along with a crew of three including the captain. All of Dive Sint Maarten’s captains have an International boat license and stcw10.

Diving in Sint Maarten is a wonderful experience. We are blessed with sunny skies and warm, clear water for most of the year. A variety of shipwrecks and world-class dive sites can be found on both sides of our Caribbean island paradise.

High Season in Saint Martin runs from December 1st to April 30th, with December being the busiest month. Low Season runs from May 1st to November 30th which coincides with our hot season. However, high demand for the excellent diving here means we stay busy all year, so be sure to book early (here : divesintmaarten.com)!

Dive Sint Maarten can cater to a range of levels, from novice to advanced divers. You will enjoy a two-tank dive at some of our best dive sites, which will be hand-picked on the day according to the conditions and level of the divers, to ensure you have the best possible experience. Divers are spoilt for choice within the Man of War Shoal Marine Park, which is home to some of the island’s last pristine reef areas. This National Marine Park, established in 2010, covers 31 km2 (3,100 hectares) and is located off the southern shore of St. Maarten. Managed by the St. Maarten Nature Foundation, the park protects a range of habitats from globally threatened coral reefs and sea grass beds to open water.

Many of their dive sites are located within the Man of War Shoal National Park where you are very likely to see Caribbean reef sharks, as well as many types of reef fish, sea turtles, other species of shark, lobsters and the rare Queen Conch (Lobatus gigas). Within the park you will also find a number of shipwrecks and sunk artificial reefs. Proselyte Reef is the site of a Spanish Warship that sank in 1801. Divers can see artifacts such as large anchors, cannons at this popular St. Maarten dive site.

As the Park is south of St Maarten, the surface conditions might be a bit rough at times. Divers are required to have done some recent diving. If you haven’t dived for a while, or your dive skills are a little rusty, the instructors can help you review and practice your skills with an Update Dive which will have you blowing bubbles like a pro again in no time!

Not certified? No problem. Uncertified divers can arrange a Try Scuba Dive and become a Basic Diver, allowing them to experience diving under the close supervision of one of our highly-qualified instructors. Although no certification is issued, this can count towards your Open Water Dive certification, if you decide to pursue this later. There is a maximum of two people per instructor meaning you will get adequate attention and support. This option is ideal for people with limited time or who want to see whether scuba diving is for them. Try Dives are done at the Little Bay dive site which houses many artificial objects such as a submarine and a helicopter as well as a large number of fish.

If you are looking to get certified in scuba diving, you can do this here too. At Dive Sint Maarten you can earn your international scuba diving certification, with a range of courses offered from the entry-level Open Water Diver certification for beginner divers. St Maarten is the ideal place to learn as the island offers excellent conditions for beginners with the easy shallow dives sites near the shore. And with so many things to see, especially within the Marine Park, by the time you finish the course you will have solid experience in different diving environments. Dive Sint Maarten’s instructors insist on taking proper time to complete the Open Water Course, rather than rushing through it like some do in this industry. This means you can be assured to come out a confident independent diver.

For divers wanting to go a little further there are numerous possibilities on St Maarten. There are many different wrecks to explore here, including the Carib Cargo, Fuh Sheng, Porpoise and Jab Jab. These wrecks range from 50 to 130 feet (15 to 40 meters) and each have their own story to tell. Divers can explore the outside and inside of the wrecks when doing their Wreck Specialty. This is perfect to combine with the Deep Specialty course, allowing you to dive to a depth of 130ft/40m.
Shark dives are also plenty on St Maarten, making this a great place to learn more about these fabulous creatures. Sharks are one the oldest living species on the planet, and are any essential part of the ocean’s ecosystems. These fascinating animals have eight unique senses – they share the same five senses as humans, as well as an additional three. Dive Sint Maarten’s Shark Ecology Program allows you to learn more about sharks so you can truly appreciate and respect these underwater treasures. These are just some of the specialties offered – contact us to learn more.

Instructors are highly experienced, internationally trained, and can teach and guide in four languages: English, Dutch, German and Spanish. The team prides itself on delivering a professional yet friendly and personalized service to all guests.

Courses and dive trips depart from the Dive Sint Maarten shop, centrally located in the heart of Philipsburg close to the cruise terminal, giving easy access to cruise ship passengers and close to the Marine Park. There is also ample parking onsite for guests staying elsewhere on the island. The team at Dive Sint Maarten looks forward to showing you the beautiful underwater world Sint Maarten has to offer.

Sail St Maarten with the Random Wind

We offer the Random Wind Paradise Day Sail:

This lovely day goes from 10-3 and is so much more than a boat trip.

We have broken the excursion mold with cushioned seats for every guest (some in the sun and some in the shade).

During the day we sail, swim, snorkel, eat, drink and swing into the Caribbean Blue from St. Maarten’s only Tarzan Swing. This trapeze style swing is appropriate for all ages. Those from 2 to 89 have enjoyed it for many years. Your crew can demonstrate the backflip, front dive and more. You may even win a free T-shirt by being “Swinger of the Day”.

We have a stand up paddle board for anyone to try as well as an ocean kayak and snorkel gear, noodles and swim vests.

Our open bar is included and available the entire day and includes bottled water, juices, rum, gin, vodka, tequila, daiquiris, margaritas, rum punch, bloody Marys, mudslides, beer, and lots more.

We cook our lunch on board fresh every day. We usually make grilled Caribbean chicken skewers with rice, green salad, French bread and fruit garnish. We always have cookies and chocolates for dessert unless there is a birthday or celebration then we may serve up an awesome cake from the French bakery. On the way back toward the end of the trip we serve nice cheese/hors d’oeuvres.

Our stereo system plays several media including iPods and iPhones.

Guests often bring their own music to play. Speakers are throughout the deck.

Diane, the owner, is always up for giving a deal.
